What Can an Orthodontist Do For Me?

What Can an Orthodontist Do For Me?

Over the last few years, orthodontic care has come a long way. Until recently, it was believed that if teeth were not corrected during childhood, they would have to remain crooked or misaligned. This is no longer true. An orthodontist in Orange County, CA like one at John Redmond Orthodontics can create beautiful smiles for people of all ages.

As a leading orthodontist, we have had many patients who were in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even 50s! We know how much a great smile can improve a person’s self-confidence. Public speaking can be made easier, pictures can be taken effortlessly, and people will feel better about themself.

When it comes to adult orthodontic care, many of our patients suffer from at least one of the following:

  • Bone loss
  • Gum loss
  • Jaw misalignment
  • A reduction of tooth enamel
  • Chronic jaw pain
  • Headaches
  • Crooked teeth
  • A bad bite

Our orthodontist can help with all of these things. For an appointment with John Redmond Orthodontics, please call us today for an initial consultation.

Do You Need Braces?

One of the most common questions that adults will ask our orthodontist is “Do I need braces?” If you think you need braces but are unsure, you can ask your dentist during your annual check-up. Most dentists have a basic understanding of orthodontic care, or even training in it. They may be able to help you understand the answer to your question or refer you to an orthodontist. If you don’t have a dentist or an annual checkup in the near future, you can schedule an appointment at John Redmond Orthodontics

Questions you can ask an orthodontist include:

  • Will braces correct my problem?
  • How long will I need braces?
  • Have you treated adults before?
  • What times do you offer appointments?
  • What are the costs of the treatment?
  • What can I expect from the treatment?

Types of Braces

If an orthodontist recommends you to have braces, you may have a few different options available. Most orthodontists will recommend metal braces. There are a number of benefits to having this kind, including their low cost and reliability.

Metal Braces – As the most common type of braces, these are effective, cost-efficient, and relatively easy to maintain.

Ceramic Braces – These are less visible than metal braces and usually placed on the top teeth. Ceramic braces are more expensive than metal braces and also more fragile.

Lingual Braces – These braces are placed on the back of the teeth and cannot be seen from the front. They are more difficult to maintain and more costly but can be beneficial for some people.

Invisible Braces – Invisible braces involve a clear set of aligners that are invisible and can be removed as necessary. They are not suited to every person and are more costly than other types of braces.
