At John Redmond Orthodontics, we provide Invisalign care grounded in clinical experience and advanced orthodontic training from the University of Southern California.
If you’ve been thinking about straightening your teeth but don’t want the look or feel of metal brackets, Invisalign may be a good option. Dr. John Redmond graduated with honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and completed a Master of Science in Craniofacial Biology alongside his orthodontic certificate at USC. Our San Juan Capistrano, CA Invisalign service uses digital scanning and 3D treatment planning to design every aligner case from the ground up. Schedule a consultation to find out whether clear aligners are the right fit for your teeth.
Invisalign Provider in San Juan Capistrano, CA
An orthodontist who offers Invisalign does more than just hand you a set of trays. The treatment requires a detailed diagnosis, precise digital modeling, and ongoing adjustments as your teeth move through each stage. That level of oversight is what separates orthodontist-directed Invisalign from mail-order aligner kits or cases managed by a general dentist without specialized training.
At John Redmond Orthodontics, we serve patients throughout San Juan Capistrano and the surrounding area who are looking for a clear, removable alternative to traditional braces. We treat adults, teens, and older adolescents whose orthodontic concerns range from mild spacing issues to more involved bite correction.
Invisalign Services We Offer in San Juan Capistrano
Clear aligner treatment covers more ground than most patients expect. The type of Invisalign plan we recommend depends on the complexity of the case, the patient’s age, and what the digital scan reveals about the bite.
- Invisalign for crowded teeth. Overlapping or crooked teeth are one of the most common reasons patients come to us for aligners. Crowding makes teeth harder to clean and increases the risk of decay and gum problems over time. Invisalign trays gradually reposition each tooth into alignment without brackets or wires.
- Gap closure. Spacing between teeth can result from genetics, missing teeth, or abnormal jaw growth. Clear aligners close gaps by moving adjacent teeth together in a controlled sequence, producing a tighter, more uniform smile.
- Bite correction. Mild to moderate overbites, underbites, and crossbites often respond well to Invisalign when combined with attachments or elastics. A misaligned bite puts uneven force on certain teeth and can cause wear, discomfort, or jaw-related issues that worsen over time.
- Adult Invisalign. Many adults skipped braces as teenagers and are now looking for a discreet option. Invisalign fits into professional and social life without the visibility of metal hardware. Adults with crowded teeth have more treatment options now than at any other point in orthodontic history.
- Invisalign Teen. Invisalign Teen includes compliance indicators built into the trays so parents and the orthodontist can confirm the aligners are being worn enough hours each day. Teens who are consistent about wear time can achieve results comparable to traditional braces.
- Refinement and relapse correction. Patients who had braces years ago but stopped wearing their retainers sometimes see their teeth shift back. Invisalign can correct that relapse without going through a full course of traditional orthodontics a second time.
- Combined treatment with attachments. Some Invisalign cases require small tooth-colored attachments bonded to specific teeth to give the trays more grip. This allows the aligners to handle rotations, extrusions, and other movements that would otherwise be difficult with trays alone.
Why Choose John Redmond Orthodontics for Invisalign in San Juan Capistrano, CA?
An Orthodontist With Craniofacial Training
Dr. John Redmond completed years of post-doctoral training beyond dental school, including a master’s degree focused on how the bones and tissues of the face and jaw develop.
He holds memberships in the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, and the Orange County Dental Association, among other professional groups. This depth of training means he can identify complications a general dentist might overlook and course-correct the treatment plan when teeth aren’t tracking as projected.
Digital Precision and a Personal Approach
We use iTero digital scanning to capture detailed 3D images of every patient’s teeth, bite, and gum tissue. Prior to iTero technology, impressions were made with physical molds that were messy and often inaccurate. Digital scans eliminate those problems and let us show you a projected treatment outcome before you commit.
Dr. Redmond lives in Orange County with his wife Georgia and their children, and he personally oversees every Invisalign case from consultation through retention. Our before-and-after gallery reflects years of results across all types of orthodontic cases. We also offer flexible payment plans to help make treatment accessible.
Understanding Invisalign Care
Conditions We Treat and Treatment Options
Invisalign is designed to treat a range of orthodontic conditions through a series of custom-fabricated, removable trays. Each set of trays applies controlled pressure to specific teeth, moving them gradually into their target positions. Common conditions we treat with Invisalign include:
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps and spacing irregularities
- Overbites, underbites, and crossbites
- Open bites (in mild to moderate cases)
- Teeth that have shifted after previous orthodontic treatment
- Mild to moderate malocclusion
Not every case is appropriate for clear aligners. Severe skeletal discrepancies, certain types of tooth rotation, and complex multi-axis movements may still require braces or a combined approach. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, clear aligners are most effective when the case is planned and supervised by an orthodontist who can make adjustments as treatment progresses.
What Should You Expect from Invisalign?
- Your first visit includes a full evaluation with digital scans, X-rays, and a clinical exam to determine whether Invisalign is the right approach for your case.
- If you’re a candidate, we create a digital treatment plan that maps out each stage of tooth movement before your trays are fabricated.
- You’ll receive multiple sets of aligner trays and switch to a new set every one to two weeks.
- Check-in appointments are typically scheduled every six to eight weeks so we can monitor progress and make any needed adjustments.
- After treatment, you’ll transition to retainers to prevent your teeth from shifting back.
What Is the Typical Treatment Timeline?
- Initial consultation and digital scanning can usually be completed in a single visit.
- Custom trays are fabricated and typically ready within a few weeks of your scan.
- Active treatment ranges from several months to 18 months or longer, depending on the complexity of the case.
- Some patients need refinement trays toward the end of treatment to fine-tune specific tooth positions.
- Retainer wear begins immediately after the final trays and continues long-term to maintain results.
The ADA’s MouthHealthy resource notes that most orthodontic treatment takes one to three years including retention. Every case is different, and timelines depend on factors like compliance, the severity of the original teeth irregularities, and how the teeth respond to the trays. Dr. Redmond will give you an estimated timeline during your consultation, but adjustments are common as treatment progresses.
What Should You Bring to Your First Visit?
- Your dental insurance card, if applicable, so we can verify orthodontic coverage
- Any recent X-rays or records from a previous dentist, if available
- A list of current medications
- Questions about treatment options, cost, payment plans, or anything else on your mind
Your first appointment will include a thorough exam, digital imaging, and a conversation about what Invisalign can and cannot accomplish for your specific situation. There’s no pressure to commit on the spot, because we want you to have the information you need to make a confident decision.
What Are Some Important California Orthodontic Resources?
If you’re researching orthodontic care or want to verify provider credentials, these resources can help:
- The Dental Board of California licenses and regulates dentists and orthodontists in the state. You can verify a provider’s license status through their consumer portal.
- The CDC oral health division provides data and educational resources on the connection between oral health and overall well-being.
- The ADA’s MouthHealthy website covers orthodontic treatment types, what to expect, and how to maintain oral health during treatment.
These resources are for informational purposes. They are not a substitute for a clinical evaluation with a licensed orthodontist who can assess your individual situation.

I currently have three kids going through braces here! The staff is so friendly and helpful, especially with changes in insurance. They are mindful of each patient…who is fearful, etc and talk them through each new phase. We have been so happy here!

Going to rate 5 stars since John and the back-of-house staff are excellent; kind, professional, and skilled. Unfortunately, the front desk are not quite up to par. When I called about retainer removal, I was told about a fee that wasn’t accurate/true, and when I asked for clarity, I was met with dismissive responses like “we can talk about it when you get here,” despite the fact I live over an hour away. On arrival, I wasn’t greeted and was instead cut off with “you’re checked in” before I could speak. The hostility from the receptionists was obvious and unprofessional, which overshadows the otherwise great clinical team.
