However, some discomfort is often involved with braces, especially at the beginning, when they are just starting to realign your teeth. WILL BRACES BE PAINFUL?

Most orthodontic patients say the process of getting braces is pain-free. There should only be minimal discomfort as your orthodontist attaches the orthodontic appliances to teeth. Orthodontic bands and braces are cemented onto the teeth. The placement of the orthodontic wires is done by directly connecting them to the cemented-on brackets with little elastic bands, which is also a painless process.

What Causes Potential Discomfort From Braces?

If you find that your teeth are sore or sensitive following an orthodontic visit, it’s actually not a bad thing, as it means that the braces are working to give you straight teeth and a healthy smile. By applying pressure on specific areas, braces move your teeth into their newer, straighter positions. The action of the wire connected to the brackets applies this pressure and causes the tooth movement. It is the pressure created by the wire which may cause a sore feeling in your teeth shortly after an adjustment.
