Are you looking for an adult orthodontist in Dana Point, CA?
At John Redmond Orthodontics, we have a Dana Point adult orthodontic provider ready to help you today.
Many adults assume orthodontic treatment is an opportunity they missed, but that is rarely the case. Teeth can be straightened and bites corrected well into adulthood, and the results are every bit as reliable as they are for younger patients. If you are considering an adult orthodontist in Dana Point, CA, Dr. M. John Redmond can evaluate your teeth, explain your options, and recommend a plan suited to your goals. He earned his dental degree with honors and completed specialized training in orthodontics, and our Dana Point, CA adult orthodontist treats patients at every stage of life.
Adult treatment often looks different from a teenager’s. You may be balancing work, family, and a full schedule, and you want an approach that fits into all of it. We take those realities into account when planning your care, and we are always straightforward about what treatment can accomplish and how long it will take. Please contact our office whenever you would like to begin.
Adult Orthodontist in Dana Point, CA
An orthodontist corrects the alignment of the teeth and jaws, and that care is as valuable for adults as it is for younger patients. Teeth can drift over the years, results from childhood braces can relapse, and bite problems left untreated earlier in life tend to persist. Using braces, clear aligners, and other appliances, we move teeth into healthier positions and steady the way the upper and lower teeth meet. Adult treatment is one part of the broader orthodontics in Dana Point we provide.
The adults we treat come to us for a range of reasons. Some have felt self-conscious about crowded or crooked teeth for years. Others notice that their teeth have shifted since they wore braces as teenagers. Many are motivated less by appearance than by function, since a misaligned bite can wear down teeth and make thorough cleaning harder. Whatever brings you in, our aim is a healthy, stable result and a clear explanation of how we will reach it.
Adult Orthodontic Services We Offer in Dana Point
Adults have more treatment options today than ever before, and several are discreet enough to suit professional life. The right choice depends on your teeth, your bite, and what you hope to achieve. The options below range from familiar braces to treatments many adults have never considered.
- Braces. Traditional braces remain one of the most effective tools in orthodontics, and they are by no means only for children. Metal and ceramic options both work well for adults, and ceramic brackets are considerably less noticeable against the teeth. Braces also handle complex tooth movements that other appliances sometimes cannot.
- Invisalign. Clear aligners are a popular choice among adults because they are nearly invisible and lift out for meals and cleaning. They are well suited to many cases of mild to moderate crowding and spacing. We will tell you candidly whether they can deliver the result you have in mind.
- Treatment for crowded teeth. Crowding is among the most common concerns adults raise, and it tends to worsen gradually with age. We create room and realign the teeth with braces or aligners, depending on the case. Addressing crowding in adult teeth also makes daily cleaning noticeably easier.
- Correcting a shifted bite. Teeth straightened years ago can drift when a retainer is not worn consistently. In many cases, we can guide them back into alignment and correct a bite problem that has developed over time.
- TMJ treatment. Discomfort in the jaw joint, including pain, clicking, and headaches, is something a great many adults live with. If you are dealing with ongoing jaw discomfort, an evaluation can determine whether orthodontic care has a role in relieving it.
- Airway orthodontics. This focuses on how the position of the jaws and teeth relates to breathing. For appropriate adult patients, treatment can support a healthier airway alongside straighter teeth.
- Dental Pain Erasure by Synapse. This specialized treatment targets specific sources of dental and facial pain. We are glad to discuss whether it is appropriate for you during a consultation.
- Retainers. After treatment, a retainer holds your teeth in their corrected positions, which matters especially for adults whose teeth tend to shift. We will explain what a retainer involves and how to protect your results over the long term.
Not every option suits every patient. Following an examination, we will recommend the approach that fits your teeth and your schedule, and explain the reasoning behind it.
Why Choose John Redmond Orthodontics for Adult Treatment in Dana Point, CA?
Choosing an orthodontist as an adult means finding someone who understands both the clinical side of treatment and the practical demands of adult life. Two things in particular shape how we work with our patients.
Specialized Training and Credentials
Dr. John Redmond completed his dental education with honors at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, then earned graduate training devoted entirely to orthodontics. He maintains membership in the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. Adult care is one part of his work as an orthodontist in Dana Point, CA, which also encompasses treatment for children and teenagers.
Treatment That Respects Your Time
Adults are busy, and we plan around that reality. At our practice, we take the time to explain your options, describe what each visit will involve, and answer your questions before you commit to anything. We also review insurance coverage and payment arrangements early, so the financial side is clear from the outset. We use digital scanning rather than the messy impression trays of the past, which makes appointments quicker and more comfortable. Adults throughout Dana Point have trusted us with their care, and we work to earn that trust at every visit.
Understanding Adult Orthodontic Treatment
Concerns We Commonly Address
Adult orthodontic problems tend to fall into a handful of categories, and many affect oral health as much as appearance. Straight, well-aligned teeth are easier to clean, which lowers the risk of decay and gum disease over time. The concerns we treat most often in adults include:
- Crowding, where teeth overlap because there is not enough room
- Spacing or gaps that have opened up between teeth
- Overbite, where the upper front teeth extend well past the lower
- Underbite, where the lower teeth sit ahead of the upper
- Crossbite, where the upper and lower teeth do not meet correctly
- Relapse, where teeth have shifted following previous orthodontic treatment
The right treatment depends on the specific problem and its severity. Some adults do well with aligners alone, while others need braces to manage more involved movements, and there are real benefits to adult treatment that reach beyond a straighter smile.
What Treatment Involves
Whether you choose braces or aligners, adult treatment settles into a predictable routine after the first few weeks. Most patients can expect the following:
- Regular visits so we can adjust your braces or review your aligners and confirm progress
- Some soreness after adjustments, which over-the-counter pain relief usually eases within a day or two
- A short adjustment period as your mouth becomes accustomed to the appliance
- A few dietary changes, since hard and sticky foods can damage braces
- Extra attention to brushing and flossing throughout treatment
How well you care for your teeth at home affects your result as much as anything we do in the office. Adults tend to be diligent patients, which is one reason their treatment so often proceeds smoothly.
How Long Does Adult Treatment Take?
Treatment length depends on the complexity of your case, and adult teeth can move somewhat more slowly than a teenager’s because the surrounding bone has finished growing. Most cases follow this general path:
- The first appointment includes an examination, imaging, and a discussion of your options
- If you decide to proceed, we begin treatment and explain how to care for your braces or aligners
- You return periodically for adjustments and progress checks
- Most cases run between several months and roughly two years
- Once active treatment ends, a retainer protects the result
Because so much depends on the individual, we provide a realistic estimate after your first visit rather than a fixed commitment, and treatment length can vary even between similar cases.
Preparing for Your First Visit
A few items help us make the most of your first appointment:
- Your dental insurance information and a photo ID
- Recent X-rays from a previous dentist, if you have them
- A list of any medications you currently take
- Any questions about treatment, timing, or cost
The first visit is largely about understanding your goals and answering your questions. There is no obligation to begin treatment that day.

I currently have three kids going through braces here! The staff is so friendly and helpful, especially with changes in insurance. They are mindful of each patient…who is fearful, etc and talk them through each new phase. We have been so happy here!

Going to rate 5 stars since John and the back-of-house staff are excellent; kind, professional, and skilled. Unfortunately, the front desk are not quite up to par. When I called about retainer removal, I was told about a fee that wasn’t accurate/true, and when I asked for clarity, I was met with dismissive responses like “we can talk about it when you get here,” despite the fact I live over an hour away. On arrival, I wasn’t greeted and was instead cut off with “you’re checked in” before I could speak. The hostility from the receptionists was obvious and unprofessional, which overshadows the otherwise great clinical team.

I came to Dr. Redmond a little over half way through my 4- year braces journey. As soon as I stepped through the doors, He and his team welcomed me in with excellence and enthusiasm. I cannot speak highly enough of the incredible amount of detail and dedication Dr. Redmond puts into ensuring each of his patients leave his doors looking and feeling confident with their smile. Not only is Dr. Redmond is a master at his craft, he is an incredibly likable and down to earth person. His exemplary attitude, work ethic, and leadership are reflected in each one of the wonderful dental assistant/staff. The office is pristine, with every single detail you can think of taken care of! From upbeat music to refreshments upon walk in, John Redmond Orthodontics is the best of the best! The staff is organized, professional, and absolutely the kindest people ever! A big thank you to each of them for providing such thoughtful and thorough care. After finishing my treatment, I can surely say I have never been more confident in my smile!
