Invisalign Provider in Laguna Niguel, CA
Clear aligner treatment has made orthodontic care more accessible for patients who need their teeth straightened but prefer to avoid traditional brackets. Invisalign uses a series of custom-fabricated, removable trays that apply controlled pressure to shift teeth gradually into alignment. Each tray is worn for one to two weeks before the patient moves to the next set in the series.
Not every orthodontic issue is a good fit for aligners, which is why working with a trained orthodontist matters. At John Redmond Orthodontics, we evaluate each patient’s bite, jaw structure, and tooth positioning with digital scans before determining whether Invisalign can produce the result they’re looking for, or whether a different approach would work better.
Invisalign Services We Offer in Laguna Niguel
Clear aligner cases vary widely. Some patients need minor corrections that take a few months. Others have bite issues or severe crowding that require a longer, more involved treatment plan. We tailor every Invisalign case to the patient’s specific anatomy and goals. Here are the different Invisalign-related services we offer:
- Invisalign for crowded teeth. When teeth overlap or sit too close together, they become harder to clean and more vulnerable to decay. Invisalign trays move each tooth individually into its target position, reducing crowding and improving both appearance and hygiene. Patients who assumed they were too crooked for aligners are often surprised at what modern Invisalign can accomplish.
- Gap closure and spacing correction. Gaps between teeth can result from missing teeth, genetics, or disproportionate jaw size. Clear aligners close these spaces by shifting adjacent teeth together in a planned sequence, producing a tighter, more even smile.
- Bite correction. Overbites, underbites, and crossbites put uneven pressure on certain teeth and can cause wear, discomfort, and long-term damage. Invisalign combined with attachments and elastics can treat mild to moderate bite problems effectively. For patients weighing their options, the choice between Invisalign and braces depends on the severity and type of misalignment.
- Adult Invisalign. A significant portion of our Invisalign patients are adults. Many never had orthodontic treatment as teenagers and are now addressing years of crowding, spacing, or bite problems. Others had braces in the past but saw their teeth shift after not wearing retainers. The benefits of adult orthodontics go well beyond appearance, improving chewing function, reducing jaw strain, and making daily oral care simpler.
- Invisalign Teen. Teens who are disciplined about wearing their trays can achieve results comparable to braces. Invisalign Teen includes compliance indicators that help parents and the orthodontist verify the trays are being worn the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day.
- Refinement and relapse treatment. Teeth that shifted after earlier orthodontic work can often be corrected with a short course of Invisalign rather than a full re-treatment. This is one of the most common reasons adult patients seek aligners.
- Combined treatment with attachments. Some Invisalign cases require small, tooth-colored bumps bonded to specific teeth to give the trays better grip for complex movements like rotations or extrusions. These attachments are removed at the end of treatment and do not damage the tooth surface.
Why Choose John Redmond Orthodontics for Invisalign in Laguna Niguel, CA?
Specialized Training in Craniofacial Biology
Invisalign results depend heavily on how well the case is planned and monitored. Dr. John Redmond brings a level of training that goes well beyond standard dental school. After earning his dental degree with honors from the University of the Pacific, he completed a dual program at USC that included both an orthodontic residency and a master’s degree in Craniofacial Biology. That academic background gives him a structural understanding of how the teeth, jaw, and facial bones work together, which directly informs how he designs and adjusts Invisalign treatment plans.
He maintains active memberships in the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the Orange County Dental Association, and the USC Orthodontic Alumni Association.
A Practice Built on Continuity
As an orthodontist in Laguna Niguel, CA, Dr. Redmond personally plans and monitors every Invisalign case from start to finish. He is the only orthodontist in the office, so patients see the same provider at every appointment rather than rotating between associates.
Our practice has served families across Laguna Niguel and the surrounding Orange County communities for years, and many of our patients have been with us across multiple generations. We use iTero digital scanning to capture precise 3D models for treatment planning and offer flexible payment plans to help make Invisalign financially accessible.
Understanding Invisalign Care
Conditions We Treat and Treatment Options
Invisalign treats a range of orthodontic conditions through sequential sets of custom trays. Each set applies targeted pressure to specific teeth, moving them gradually toward their corrected positions. Conditions commonly treated with Invisalign include:
- Crowded or overlapping teeth that are difficult to keep clean
- Gaps between teeth caused by genetics, tooth loss, or jaw discrepancies
- Mild to moderate overbites, underbites, and crossbites
- Open bites in less severe presentations
- Relapse from previous orthodontic treatment
- Minor rotations and alignment irregularities
Not all cases are suitable for clear aligners. Severe skeletal problems, complex multi-axis movements, and certain types of deep bite may require braces or a combination of braces and aligners. Clear aligner therapy is most effective when supervised by an orthodontist who can adjust the treatment as it progresses.
What Should You Expect from Invisalign?
- Your initial visit includes a clinical exam, digital scans, X-rays, and a conversation about your goals and concerns.
- If Invisalign is appropriate for your case, we create a digital treatment plan that maps each stage of tooth movement before the trays are fabricated.
- You receive multiple sets of aligner trays and switch to a new set every one to two weeks, wearing them at least 20 to 22 hours per day.
- Progress check-ins are scheduled approximately every six to eight weeks. These visits are typically shorter than traditional braces adjustments.
- Once active treatment is complete, you transition to retainers to hold your teeth in their new positions.
What Is the Typical Treatment Timeline?
- The initial consultation and digital scanning are usually completed in one appointment.
- Custom trays are fabricated after the scan and typically arrive within a few weeks.
- Active treatment lasts anywhere from several months to 18 months or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
- Some patients require refinement trays near the end of treatment to fine-tune individual tooth positions.
- Retainer wear begins immediately after the last set of trays and continues long-term to prevent teeth from shifting back.
The ADA’s orthodontic resource notes that most orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, takes one to three years when retention is factored in. Dr. Redmond will provide a realistic estimate during your consultation, but individual timelines vary based on case complexity and how consistently the trays are worn.
What Should You Bring to Your First Visit?
- Your dental insurance card so we can check for orthodontic coverage
- Recent X-rays or records from a previous dentist, if you have them
- A list of any current medications
- Any specific questions about Invisalign, cost, or the treatment process
Your first appointment will include a complete evaluation. We will explain what we find, whether Invisalign is appropriate for your case, and what an estimated treatment plan would look like. You are not expected to begin treatment at that visit.
What Are Some Important California Orthodontic Resources?
If you want to verify an orthodontist’s credentials or research clear aligner treatment before scheduling, these resources may be helpful:
- The Dental Board of California licenses and regulates all dentists and orthodontists in the state. Their consumer portal allows you to verify any provider’s license status.
- The CDC oral health page provides information on how oral health connects to overall well-being.
- The American Association of Orthodontists offers patient resources on clear aligners, braces, and selecting a qualified orthodontist.
- The ADA’s MouthHealthy site covers orthodontic treatment types and what to expect during care.
These resources are for general information and do not replace a clinical evaluation with a licensed orthodontist.

Going to rate 5 stars since John and the back-of-house staff are excellent; kind, professional, and skilled. Unfortunately, the front desk are not quite up to par. When I called about retainer removal, I was told about a fee that wasn’t accurate/true, and when I asked for clarity, I was met with dismissive responses like “we can talk about it when you get here,” despite the fact I live over an hour away. On arrival, I wasn’t greeted and was instead cut off with “you’re checked in” before I could speak. The hostility from the receptionists was obvious and unprofessional, which overshadows the otherwise great clinical team.
