Know When To Take Your Child To An Orthodontist

Schedule Appointment

There may be quite a few signs that you need to take your child to the orthodontist but you may not know what to look out for. Many people are very proactive about ensuring they get their children to their annual well checks at the pediatrician’s office or even getting them in for their routine 6-month dental cleanings. While staying on top of these appointments is fantastic, it is also important to know what signs to look out for when you need to schedule an appointment with your local orthodontist. So, how do you know when it is the right time?

What To Look Out For

There are a few things that you can look out for when it comes to setting up an appointment at your local office. It is important to remember that setting up a consultation with an orthodontist is never a promise that you will go in and immediately get lengthy, expensive treatments. Instead, your practitioner, like an orthodontist Rancho Mission Viejo, CA relies on from John Redmond Orthodontics knows that the appointment will be set aside for an initial exam, a history of what your child has gone through, a treatment plan, and setting time aside to discuss payment options for that plan. You may want to bring your child to the orthodontist if your child:

Continues to suck on their thumb or use a pacifier later in life
Typically snores while they sleep
Has issues with their jaw popping when they move it to talk or chew
Has an apparent under or overbite
Breathes through their mouth more than their nose
Has issues with their permanent teeth coming in crooked or crowded

Is it ever reasonable to bring them in even if I don’t notice issues?

Absolutely. Even if you do not notice any of the above issues, it can still be beneficial to bring them in and have an orthodontist give them a routine checkup to ensure that everything is working properly. An orthodontist will be able to tell you if there are any issues that are not apparent on the surface or that could become a problem down the road. One of the benefits of seeking help early on from an orthodontist is that they can notice jaw or teeth issues before they develop into larger problems. This could not only save you a great deal of money down the road, but it could save your child the pain of going through an orthodontic issue and needing more serious treatment.

Getting The Help You And Your Family Need

Orthodontic care can seem like a huge step. However, it should be incorporated into your child’s life just like any other medical or dental treatment. If you are worried about your child’s oral health or would like to get them in for a checkup before serious problems arise, reach out to a local orthodontist’s office today to set up a consultation.

I currently have three kids going through braces here! The staff is so friendly and helpful, especially with changes in insurance. They are mindful of each patient…who is fearful, etc and talk them through each new phase. We have been so happy here!

Going to rate 5 stars since John and the back-of-house staff are excellent; kind, professional, and skilled. Unfortunately, the front desk are not quite up to par. When I called about retainer removal, I was told about a fee that wasn’t accurate/true, and when I asked for clarity, I was met with dismissive responses like “we can talk about it when you get here,” despite the fact I live over an hour away. On arrival, I wasn’t greeted and was instead cut off with “you’re checked in” before I could speak. The hostility from the receptionists was obvious and unprofessional, which overshadows the otherwise great clinical team.

I came to Dr. Redmond a little over half way through my 4- year braces journey. As soon as I stepped through the doors, He and his team welcomed me in with excellence and enthusiasm. I cannot speak highly enough of the incredible amount of detail and dedication Dr. Redmond puts into ensuring each of his patients leave his doors looking and feeling confident with their smile. Not only is Dr. Redmond is a master at his craft, he is an incredibly likable and down to earth person. His exemplary attitude, work ethic, and leadership are reflected in each one of the wonderful dental assistant/staff. The office is pristine, with every single detail you can think of taken care of! From upbeat music to refreshments upon walk in, John Redmond Orthodontics is the best of the best! The staff is organized, professional, and absolutely the kindest people ever! A big thank you to each of them for providing such thoughtful and thorough care. After finishing my treatment, I can surely say I have never been more confident in my smile!
